Home Explosion Case: Monserrate Shirley, Mark And Bob Leonard Due In Indianapolis Court

INDIANAPOLIS -- Three people charged in a gas explosion that devastated an Indianapolis neighborhood, killing a couple, are set to appear before a judge.

Homeowner Monserrate Shirley, her boyfriend Mark Leonard and his brother, Bob Leonard, face initial court appearances set for Monday morning.

The three were arrested Friday on charges of murder, arson and other counts following the Nov. 10 blast that killed a couple living next to Shirley's home. The explosion destroyed Shirley's house and four others and damaged dozens more.

Investigators say the three planned the explosion for an insurance payout. Court documents say Shirley was facing $63,000 in credit card debt and bankruptcy proceedings. Prosecutors say Mark Leonard recently lost $10,000 at a casino.

An attorney for Shirley and Mark Leonard told The Associated Press they maintain innocence.

Doctor Who Roleplay [Private]

Here's the general idea: I'd like to try my hand at writing a season of Doctor Who. I'd like it to have a major, underlying story arc, along with individual "episodes" or chapters. We'd only really have to plan for the major plot; the chapters we could plot as we go.

I'd like you to play the Doctor, and which Doctor you play is entirely up to you (though I will say that I have a preference for Eleven, and I will make puppy eyes at you while making such an observation). You may even make an original regeneration.

I will play an OC, and I can promise you that's not as Sue-ish as it sounds. I don't do undeveloped characters; my characters arrive with plenty of depth, and they continue to develop as the roleplay occurs. We'll both be developing and playing NPCs as necessary.

I only have one plot idea. I'm not married to it, but here's a summary:

"The Doctor always had an eye for good companions. The shop girl, the doctor, the mouthy temp, the little girl and her Roman: each has been a light for humanity in their own brilliant and often surprising way.

And then those lights began to flicker.

Well, to be fair, it was the literal, man-made lights that flickered first. It became a trend that the Doctor noticed in his travels; wherever he was, regardless of its location in space and time, the lights were flickering. Even the bulb on his TARDIS was not immune to the trend. Then, he noticed an even more disturbing trend: Time itself was unraveling. Each flickering light signified another row of stitches plucked from its fabric. Tugging the strands was a dark force with her sights on the beginning of Time itself. If the force were allowed to continue, the power to reconstruct the tapestry of the past, present, and future would lie in her hands.

The Doctor could not allow this, and so he traveled. He found a young woman who was broken, raw, unpredictable and completely unlike any companion that he had found before. He laid all of time and space before her, offered to take her anywhere that she pleased, and silently prayed that she would not notice the flickering lights which pursued them.

Time could be rewritten, he once claimed. This adventure would be the ultimate test of that theory, for under no circumstances could his new companion know the truth: the dark force pursuing them is none other than the companion's future self, and only the retribution or damnation that she finds at the Doctor's side can save Time from its beginning."

Again, I'm not married to this, and it is subject to revision/additional ideas. I'd like the plot to involve some or all of the following things:
- Flickering lights indicating...something. In this case, the lights flicker when something from the future (but still intertwined with the present) becomes unwound.
- A unique Companion. As the plot currently stands, they'll represent some of the worst of humanity rather than the best.
- the Doctor saving Time and Space from something other than the end of Time in Space (or the end of Planet Earth). I'd like our conflict to be a foil to this usual trope, somehow; if we could make the Doctor save Time and Space from the beginning of time and space, that would be fabulous.
- This is unrelated to the current plot, but something with convergent realms/universes could also be fun.

Breakthrough Leadership: Prevent Egotism w/ Self-Confidence ...

As leaders strive to improve their leadership, they use their self-confidence to guide and sustain them through the learning. Those who believe they need no improvement suffer from egotism; those they lead suffer in it.

Recently one leader asked me: How do you know it?s self-confidence and not egotism? How do you prevent self-confidence from preserving blind spots and settling into egotism?

Breakthrough Leadership: Prevent Egotism w/ Self-Confidence Image by:SweetDreamzDesign

Image by: Sweet Dreamz Design via Creative Commons License.
  • Self-confidence opens the ears to feedback.

This provides a steady stream of learning for realignment. Conversely, egotism makes you deaf. It blocks learning and growth.

  • Self-confidence compels you to use your gifts for others.

Egotism demands others applaud your gifts as a sign of your perfection. Thus self-confidence in action is the opposite of egotism for it brings rewards through serving that egotism never can.

  • Self-confidence fuels true humility.

It propels all to learn from mistakes and equalizes all on human qualities. Meanwhile, egotism eschews humility by confusing it with weakness and humiliation.

  • Self-confidence grows out of understanding your purpose in life.

In leadership, true self-confidence elevates purpose about the personal. Conversely, egotism flourishes in inner confusion.

  • Self-confidence is keenly aware of the reality.

It handles the surprise ups and downs of reality very well. On the other hand, egotism plants its roots firmly in denial.

  • Self-confidence embraces doubt as the checkpoint against egotism.

Egotism squashes doubt in the fear it will reveal the truth.

  • Self-confidence finds greatness in differences.

Self-confidence revels in elevating diverse talents. Egotism judges differences as unworthiness.

  • Self-confidence allows leaders to shine through their teams? achievements.

A leader?s egotism nullifies the team to protect and buoy his or her insecurity.

Self-confidence fuels breakthrough leadership. It allows you to overcome weaknesses and status quo for the good of all you lead. For example, if you are afraid of conflict yet confident to learn how to overcome your anxiety, you mediate and facilitate with success. If your initial definition of leadership was mostly directive, your self-confidence will enable you to engage others? ideas to meet changing winds of global business.

Egotism, which grounds its power in the status quo, stifles leaders and those they lead. It crushes others? self-image and growth to survive the crush of its own insecurity.

Egotism blocks reversal of direction even when it?s clear that the direction is taking business to the cliff. When there is a crisis, egotists are more likely to deny or blame. Self-confident leaders look boldly at the crisis and all its possible causes (including themselves) to effectively solve it.

Egotism suffers in fear of revelation while self-confidence turns revelation into never ending success. If you are open to feedback, welcoming insights, and always assessing your blind spots, you are using your self-confidence for breakthrough leadership. Kudos!

Discover Home Improvement And How You Could Live In A Better ...

TIP! You can make a small niche or alcove really pop by using colorful paint or wallpaper to cover the back surface of the inlaid area. For small areas, you can probably use a small sample-sized container of paint, eliminating the need to buy an entire gallon.

If homeowners are armed with relevant information that is updated and factual, they can complete many home improvement projects on their own. Here you will find helpful advice so you can complete your home improvement projects.

TIP! Insulate the attic to save money on heating costs. Heat naturally rises, which means tons of heat will escape from a poorly-insulated attic, especially during the colder months.

Install inside your closet automatic LED lights which are battery operated. They are available at your local dollar store. You might need to install them with a few screws. Some adhere to the wall with adhesive backing. If you buy automatic lights, you can just open the door and the light will turn on.

TIP! When buying a wood burning stove, remember to check if it?s certified by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). New stoves usually already contain this certification.

Decorate on a budget with paint. If you are not able to afford remodeling, painting is a good option. Painting the walls, the trim, the cabinets or even the doors are all great ways to make your home look and feel brand new again. The great thing about paint is that you can change the color if you don?t like it, without feeling like you have lost a ton of money.

TIP! Use these two steps to make your ceiling look higher. Either use a floor lamp that is tall or paint stripes.

When you?re doing any kind of home improvement, make sure you?re taking notes on what surrounds you and stick to improvements that are smart. Forgetting things like insulation in the North, or sun-shielding in the South, will seriously lower the value of any renovations you make. Cater to what is desired, and do not try to go beyond the means of what the climate calls for.

TIP! A beginner?s tip for home improvement is to think about what you personally want to accomplish. Choose home improvement projects that really reflect your own personality and sense of style.

Safety is the most important thing to consider on a home improvement job. Turn off any gas lines if you have to work near a kitchen, fireplace or any fixtures supplied by gas. It can be dangerous if you are doing any renovations where there is a gas line. Always know the location of the shutoff valve. As well, learn the locations of your gas lines, so you are less likely to hit one accidentally.

TIP! Look into the gutter guards if you dislike cleaning your gutters or live in a wooded area. These handy devices deflect leaves and other debris, preventing them from building up and allowing the flow of water from your roof to drain efficiently.

Now that you have gained more knowledge, you are prepared to tackle one of your numerous home improvement jobs that you have planned. Don?t be afraid to get creative, but make sure you?re well equiped with knowledge first. This will help you to avoid a potential disaster.

2 Ways To Be Proactive In Your Internet Business

If you?re on the brink of giving up in your internet business. I urge you to reconsider that thought, and consider trying something new if you want to stay in business for the long haul. You don?t have to say ?bye-bye? to your internet business? just change what you?re doing, and you will see that it?s easy to get sales online simply and easily.

You will also have to be proactive with your internet marketing routine. Don?t just sit there in despair waiting for a miracle. You can turn things around in your business yourself - all you need is a little motivation.

There are many ways to revive your internet business, and I want to show you some of the things that you could be doing also if you want turn your business around and start earning some real money. As always, these tips are purely simple and easy to do, and you should have no reason for not having success with them.

Here?s tip number 1:

1) Run more ads

If you?re currently running ads and it?s bringing you slow traffic, then consider running more ads. If you?re running ads and they aren?t bringing in ANY money, cut those advertising routes out, and switch to a different site to advertise on. Always make sure your advertising is accountable, and that it?s producing a good return on investment.

You could do pay per click ads (PPC). This is the fastest and most targeted form of advertising that you can invest in. The 2 biggest players in the PPC game are Google Adwords and Microsoft Adcenter. If you don?t want to use them, there are still other options too.

You can advertise on high traffic websites, advertise on blogs, do display/content advertising, or even start your own affiliate program. With an affiliate program, you can have hundreds or even thousands of people promoting your affiliate program, and making sales for you without breaking a sweat.

Here?s another way to revive your internet business:

2) Give away free stuff

This is a classical form of internet marketing that still works today. With this technique, you will need something called a ?squeeze page?. A squeeze page is simply a small web page where you entice your visitors to sign up to your email newsletter, and in return, you will get them a free gift (or gifts) for signing up.

Your free stuff should contain promotional material in it, all while making the information very good and worth reading. There?s a balance here. You don?t want to overdo the selling in your ebook? just sprinkle it lightly in your ebook, but make sure that the content is 100% good.

These 2 strategies should get you on the right path to earning more sales and profits in your internet business. Running more ads will give you immediate results, and giving away free stuff will help you to convert your prospects into customers via your email newsletter. I highly suggest you do both in your business today.
Good luck with marketing your business online successfully.

Social Media Marketing for Dummies is a Smart Book

Social Media Marketing Every day I get notices and descriptions of new social media tools and strategies.? If I didn?t love this stuff, I think I would easily get completely overwhelmed and depressed by the myriad of choices out there.

I mean every month, it seems that someone has come up with a new way to manage social media marketing, or a new social media marketing platform.? In the last couple years alone, we?ve seen the advent of Pinterest, Google+ and Facebook making major changes in their platform ? who can keep up with it all?

Social Media Marketing for Dummies Brings it all Together

Not to worry.? Jan Zimmerman and Debora Ng have come to our rescue with what looks like a virtual social media bible for 2013.? Social Media Marketing All-in-One For Dummies is a GIANT book!? It?s at nearly three inches deep and over 700 pages of updated social media strategies and how-to?s that newbies and experts alike will find useful.

On the front cover of the book is the boast ?9 books in 1.? ?I think the best way to describe the book, might be to just dig right in and show you what those are:

  1. Social Media Mix ? It makes sense to start with a strategic overview.? With the number of social media tools increasing on what seems like a daily basis, this section will help you set the stage for your strategy so that you can choose what works best for you.
  2. Cybersocial Tools ? I?ve not heard the word ?cybersocial? yet, but this section will familiarize you with helpful tools that will have you managing your social media marketing like a pro.
  3. Blogs, Podcases and Video ? The baseline for any social media marketing strategy is having a destination to drive your community to.? This section discusses the most common kinds of foundation content in detail and how to get started quickly and easily.
  4. Twitter ? Learn how to use Twitter as a marketing tool; what it?s good for and what it?s not good for.? You?ll also learn about Twitter Chats ? which are a great way to build engagement.
  5. Facebook ? With most of the world participating on Facebook and spending so much of their day there, it makes sense to use this platform for your marketing.? This section will teach you the best way to leverage Facebook for your marketing.
  6. Google+?? Google+ is a relatively new platform that has had somewhat of a slow start.? If you?re still not sure how to use Google+ as part of your social media marketing strategy, this will walk you through the weeds.
  7. Pinterest ? This is another new platform that has just taken off like gangbusters.? It?s simplicity is what makes it such a flexible ? and sometimes confusing tool for marketing.? Don?t discount Pinterest until you?ve read this section.
  8. Other Social Media Marketing Sites ? Yes, there are more social media marketing channels out there than the basics.? Learn how to use Daily Deals, Social Gaming and mobile platforms to drive your marketing.
  9. Measuring Results; Building on Success ? You should get this book just for this section alone!? If you?ve been using social media marketing in your business, but haven?t been sure about what?s working and what isn?t ? read this section.

About the Authors

You might wonder what kind of marketing expert has mastered all of these tools?? It?s Jan Zimmerman!

Jan has been a business owner for over 30 years.? Her previous companies provided a range of services including video production, grant writing and linguistic engineering R&D.? In 1994, she founded Sandia Consulting Group and has spun off Watermelon Mountain Web Marketing.? It?s this kind of broad-based experience in traditional marketing and her experience with B2B clients that have given her the experience and expertise to share this information in a way that will resonate with pragmatic business owners.

Her co-author is Deborah Ng, who grew a successful blog into the number one community for freelance writers.? Deborah also has significant social media experience from being the community manager for several major online brands.

Why add yet ANOTHER social media marketing book to your library?

Granted, I received a review copy of Social Media Marketing for Dummies.? But what can I tell you ? it?s one of the benefits of reviewing books!? This is a book I would have bought for myself and I?m hanging on to it.? If I?ve given or loaned you a book that I?ve reviewed before, don?t even think about asking me for this copy.? It?s MINE.

I?m hanging on to my copy because I use all these social media marketing tools for my business and with my clients as well.? Even if you see yourself as a social media expert, you?re going to want this book because you?ll find these little insider tips and tricks that will save you tons of time in your day.

Social Media Marketing for Dummies is a fantastic resource for any small business that is looking to leverage the power of social media to get and keep customers.
